Nick Wilson is a disabled war veteran, mental health advocate and award-winning film-maker, widely recognised as the ‘Disabled Adventurer’. Having served in the British Army for 14 years, Nick’s life changed following his experiences with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic physical conditions, including spinal pain and fibromyalgia. Rather than allowing adversity to define him, Nick has transformed his challenges into a platform for change, becoming one of the UK’s most influential voices on mental health and accessible adventure. His remarkable achievements, including becoming the first powerchair user to complete a solo ascent of Yr Wyddfa, position him as a powerful and authentic mental health speaker.
After leaving the army, Nick channelled his discipline into entrepreneurship, founding Purely Platinum, which quickly grew into a successful £250,000 business. However, at the height of this success, he experienced a mental health crisis that led to a suicide attempt. Determined to rebuild his life, Nick retrained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mental Health First Aid and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, developing a deep understanding of mental resilience. He went on to establish Wellbeing 360, a consultancy focused on supporting organisations with mental health training, guidance and one-to-one support. Alongside this, Nick has raised over £75,000 for charitable causes and contributed to impactful campaigns such as #Realmentalk and #Timetolisten, reaching approximately 250,000 people. Since 2023, his content as the Disabled Adventurer has amassed over 24 million views, further amplifying his message.
Nick’s accolades reflect both his impact and credibility. His outdoor challenges are particularly notable, including a 385-mile recumbent trike journey to honour the 385 men who take their lives each month in the UK, and becoming the first powerchair user to complete 96 kilometres of the Ridgeway National Trail. His ongoing 50at50 mission spans multiple countries, aiming to raise £150,000 to fund all-terrain powerchairs and advance accessibility innovation. In recognition of his work, Nick has received multiple honours, including Role Model of the Year and Changemaker at the English Veterans Awards, a Special Recognition at the NNBN Awards, Unsung Hero at the Northants Tourism Business Awards, and Best Northants Documentary Feature Film at the Northampton Film Festival.
Nick is hired as a mental health speaker for his rare combination of lived experience, professional expertise and extraordinary resilience. His talks are grounded in honesty, addressing topics such as depression, trauma, disability and recovery with clarity and compassion. Drawing on his outdoor feats, he provides tangible metaphors for perseverance, adaptability and self-management. Nick connects with audiences through authenticity, offering practical strategies alongside a deeply human story, making him an impactful choice for organisations seeking to inspire meaningful conversations around mental health and wellbeing.
“Nick did an amazing talk yesterday, everyone at Gilead found it useful and inspiring.”
“The event went very well! We have had a lot of fantastic feedback from employees and Nick was a fantastic final presenter who really drove home the message that understanding mental wellbeing is only the beginning, the real impact comes when you take the time to own it and ensure you are addressing it. I would really like to thank you for your support in arranging all of this with Nick, the process has been very straightforward which was greatly appreciated with the complexity of arranging such an event with multiple parties and the admin alongside.”
