Gardening on the Wild Side
Healthy Landscape, Healthy Mind

Chris Hull is the founder and lead designer at Greenbook Landscape Design, a multi-award-winning landscape designer and a familiar face from BBC’s Garden Rescue. He is a compelling mental health speaker whose passion for green spaces and wellbeing is rooted in a remarkable career in landscape design. With over 16 years of experience working on high-end residential, public realm, and community-based projects both in the UK and internationally, his insights are grounded in a deep understanding of how environments shape our emotional and mental health.

His BSc in Garden Design and his background in ecology and conservation create a powerful yet unique blend of design sensibility and environmental stewardship, giving his talks a powerful depth. Chris focuses not only on aesthetics and function, but also on sustainability, biodiversity, and how these elements contribute to mental wellbeing.

Chris has been recognised in Pro Landscaper’s ‘30 Under 30’ awards and has been featured in top industry publications, including Pro Landscaper and Dream Garden Magazine. His recent gold medal win at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where he co-designed the acclaimed ‘Microbiome Garden’ for Bowel Research UK, beautifully exemplifies his belief in gardens as spaces for healing and awareness. His work consistently illustrates how thoughtful landscape design can transform not only places but also lives.

As an ambassador for Rethink Mental Illness, Chris speaks candidly about his experience as the primary carer for his father, who suffers from schizophrenia. He seeks to break down the stigmas and taboos around mental health, especially largely misunderstood ones like schizophrenia, and improve the mental health system as a whole. He believes in the restorative power of nature and the vital role of green spaces in supporting emotional well-being. He delivers talks that are both inspiring and informative. His presentations cover sustainable garden design, ecological best practices, and, most powerfully, the measurable and transformative impact that access to nature has on mental health. Chris speaks about gardening on the wild side and how a healthy landscape can lead to a healthy mind. He brings authenticity, empathy, and real-world experience to his talks, sharing personal stories and professional insights that highlight how nature can be a powerful tool for managing stress, anxiety, and depression. He is an inspiration for many to embrace green spaces for better mental health.
