Dom Troulan is a highly respected mental health speaker whose extraordinary life experiences offer a powerful and authentic perspective on resilience, trauma and psychological wellbeing. As a former military leader and one of the most highly decorated individuals in British history, Dom has faced some of the most extreme situations imaginable. From combat zones to terrorist attacks, his ability to remain mentally strong under pressure has become the foundation of his speaking, where he now helps organisations understand how to protect, strengthen and sustain mental health in challenging environments.
Dom’s journey began when he joined the Royal Marine Commandos as a teenager for a £10 bet, quickly adapting to the physical and psychological demands of military life. He served in multiple high-risk regions, including the Falklands, Central America and the Balkans, before moving into the British Army and rising to the rank of Major. His career exposed him to prolonged periods of uncertainty, danger and high-stress decision-making. Following his military service, Dom continued to operate in crisis situations, leading hostage rescues and working as a Security Risk Manager across Sub-Saharan Africa. He also played a pivotal role in responding to major terrorist incidents, including the Westgate Shopping Mall and Dusit Hotel attacks in Kenya, where mental resilience and emotional control were critical to saving lives.
Dom’s exceptional courage and composure have been recognised at the highest level. He is the recipient of the George Cross, awarded for acts of the greatest heroism, and the Queen’s Gallantry Medal for his military service, making him the only person to receive both honours. He has also received the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service, further reflecting his commitment and bravery in the most demanding circumstances. These accolades underline not only his operational expertise but also his ability to endure and process extreme psychological pressure.
As a mental health speaker, Dom Troulan brings a rare level of authenticity and depth. He speaks candidly about the realities of stress, fear and recovery, offering audiences practical strategies to manage pressure, build resilience and support others effectively. His insights into maintaining focus, coping with trauma and fostering strong team support systems are grounded in lived experience rather than theory. Dom empowers organisations to create environments where mental wellbeing is prioritised, helping individuals and teams to perform sustainably, recover from setbacks and navigate uncertainty with confidence.
”
Dom is a truly remarkable individual. His military career spans every significant conflict in which the UK has been involved since the early 1980s, and throughout he performed at the very top of his generation — setting standards that inspired those around him and that very few could match.
On leaving the military, his selflessness never wavered. He has performed extraordinary acts of heroism in service of others — not as a single moment of courage, but as a consistent and defining pattern of character. He is also a gifted communicator. His stories are extraordinary in their own right, but what sets Dom apart is his natural ability to bring them to life for any audience. When he spoke to a group of senior City of London executives on our behalf last year, he held the room completely — and the impact stayed with people long after he had finished”
“Dom is highly personable and immediately engaged with the audience members. During his presentation he spoke with the calm authority of someone who has stood in chaos and chosen courage. When he recounted his various exploits during and after his military service, the room fell silent. Not solely because of the spectacle, but because of precision. His words vividly placed every member of the audience at the centre of the narrative: the heat, the noise, the narrowing of options. He set the scene with a soldier’s economy and a storyteller’s restraint, allowing events to speak for themselves. From that crucible emerged the rescue of British house wife Judith Tebbutt in Somalia — told not as self- congratulation, but as a lesson in judgement, teamwork, and resolve under pressure. Dom’s narration was spare yet sharp; every detail earned its place. He showed how leadership is exercised when certainty evaporated, how preparation met humanity, and how moral courage matters as much as tactical skill. As a speaker, Dom Troulan is compelling and deeply motivating. He inspires without embellishment, instructs without lecturing, and leaves audiences with practical insights about decision-making, responsibility and composure when it matters most. His is a rare voice in a world increasingly plagued by empty gestures. He is authentic, disciplined, and memorable and will guarantee to have his audiences grateful that individuals with his skills, courage and presence of mind exist within in the UK’s military forces.
“It was my pleasure, Dom, I thought of you during the elaborate days of the royal funeral, and assumed you were front and centre. I think you should get used to speaking to audiences large and small in your retirement. Word gets around, and you are a delightful presence on stage.”
