One of the most inspirational mental health speakers in the country, Matt Ellison is a trans man who spent almost four decades battling with his identity. Incredibly thought-provoking, Matt transitioned from female to male in 2013 making one of the biggest changes a person can do. Having faced stigma from others as well as a battle with himself, when booked as a mental health speaker he can share with audiences how he focused on positivity and dealt with his personal demons.
Since making the transition Matt has done everything in his power to spread his message of tolerance, diversity and inclusion. He’s taken on the role of co-chair of FTM London the UK’s leading support group for trans men educating people on trans care and safe practices for transitioning. This role also sees him head into businesses across the UK explaining how making small changes can make workplaces a lot more inclusive. Matt also explains the ways that businesses can support those who are going through a transition.
Ever since childhood, Matt knew he was a boy. Despite being born in a girl’s body he knew where his real identity lay and then spent 39 years trying to hide his secret. As his life progressed and more people began to transition he slowly gained confidence in making the big leap himself. After decades of fear, and some help from a therapist, he finally mustered up the courage to reveal his true identity to his parents. Despite his fears, Matt’s parents embraced his transition, bringing them even closer.
At his mental health speaking events, Matt is able to discuss how he dealt with such a dramatic change in his life helping others to overcome their own adversity and embrace happiness.
“Pandemic or no pandemic, nothing can stop our Kentucky Fried pride celebrations. To get the party started Matt Ellison joined us virtually to share his personal journey and experiences. Buckets of love and gratitude to Matt for such an inspiring, authentic session.”
“Having never met someone transgender before, I was really looking forward to hearing Matt talk about his story. what I hadn’t prepared for was how much I wanted to learn about the transgender community after his talk. Since hearing Matt speak, I can’t stop reading and learning about this topic. Matt has the most unique ability to pass wisdom – without being preachy – in such a way that left us wanting to educate ourselves. Matt provides a sensitive yet influential argument about some hot topics relating to gender and diversity. I have no hesitation in recommending Matt.”
“Thank you so much. Such a touching and illuminating discussion. I feel very lucky to have been there to hear your story. Every workplace needs this presentation.”
