Matt Gupwell is a respected mental health and neurodiversity keynote speaker who helps organisations build psychologically safe, high-performing cultures. Drawing on his lived experience of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, addiction and anxiety disorders, alongside more than 17 years of research and frontline practice, Matt speaks with unusual depth and authenticity. Diagnosed later in life, he understands first-hand the strain of masking, burnout and misdiagnosis, and translates these realities into practical workplace insight. His work centres on mental health as both a human responsibility and a strategic priority for modern employers.
Matt’s professional journey began across a range of sectors, where he navigated complex roles without understanding the neurological differences shaping his performance and well-being. Being undiagnosed until his mid-forties exposed him to the pressures many neurodivergent adults face in silence. Since 2008, he has supported families, teachers and organisational leaders to better understand behaviour, stress responses and identity beyond clinical labels. In 2021, he established ThinkNeurodiversity to focus on performance, mental health and inclusive organisational design. His subsequent leadership role at Divergence Works CiC strengthened his involvement in research-informed, human-centred approaches to wellbeing and difference. As an Ambitious about Autism Ambassador, he also contributes to wider advocacy and awareness initiatives.
Throughout his career, Matt has advised major organisations including the UK Government, ASOS, Sony Pictures and the NHS on how mental health intersects with neurodivergence in the workplace. He serves as a mentor to adults with ADHD and autism, many of whom are navigating late diagnosis and its psychological impact. His TALKADHD podcast, recommended by the World Federation of ADHD, is recognised for its evidence-led exploration of ADHD and mental health in the UK. He is also preparing his first book, focused on guiding adults through the emotional and practical realities of late diagnosis.
Event organisers hire Matt Gupwell to address the often-overlooked relationship between neurodiversity and mental health at work. He speaks on burnout, addiction, anxiety and identity with clarity and compassion, equipping leaders with frameworks for psychological safety and sustainable performance. His sessions are practical rather than abstract, helping HR teams and senior leaders implement supportive systems that reduce stigma, strengthen retention and promote genuine wellbeing. Audiences leave with a deeper understanding of mental health as integral to inclusion, productivity and long-term organisational resilience.
“What stood out most in Matt’s talk was a rare kind of authenticity. He didn’t show up as an expert speaking from above, but as a human being sharing his reality. He spoke with honesty, in his own words, without filters or pre-packaged answers. What truly resonated was his ability to say, “This is how I experience things,” and to embrace both his vulnerabilities and his strengths with full transparency.”
“Matt, you are incredible. Your enthusiasm, honesty and passion left a lasting effect on all the team. Thank you again.”
“The team were blown away by your presentation and some were also genuinely quite moved by what they learnt. Thank you so much and I’m really very pleased you were able to shift the dial with the team.”
“I had the pleasure of attending one of your training days about ND in the workplace. It’s had a real positive personal impact – not only professionally to support our EDI agenda and helping individuals feel empowered and included but also individually particularly with how ND may present differently for girls. The delivery was really engaging, open discussion and a great session I’m recommending to colleagues.”
“The brilliant Matt Gupwell came to ASOS.com HQ to chat all things neurodiversity. His passion for what he does is so inspiring, and the ex-researcher in me loves that what he communicates is a mix of clinical evidence, alongside real human experience. I’m excited for ASOS to be working with him more in the future!”
