Push Past Impossible
Push Past Impossible

Ryan Stramrood is a South African extreme open water and ice swimmer who has spent more than a decade pushing the limits of human endurance and mental strength. As one of the world’s most accomplished extreme swimmers, he has earned global recognition for his extraordinary achievements in some of the planet’s most unforgiving environments. He is a Founding Member of the International Ice Swimming Association, helping to promote and regulate the sport globally. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Ryan has become a leading inspirational and performance keynote speaker, captivating audiences around the world with his powerful stories of resilience, mindset, and human potential.

Ryan’s early career saw him combine his passion for adventure with a determination to understand the power of the human mind under pressure. Balancing his professional life in media sales with an unrelenting drive to explore physical and mental boundaries, he began undertaking increasingly challenging swims in icy and turbulent waters. These experiences formed the foundation for his later success as both an athlete and a speaker, as he discovered that the real battles were often fought in the mind rather than the body. His commitment to mental fortitude and self-discipline became central to his philosophy, shaping not only his career but also the message he shares with audiences today.

Throughout his remarkable journey, Ryan has achieved feats that few would dare attempt. He has completed more than 120 crossings between Robben Island and the South African mainland and became the first person to swim the 33 kilometres across False Bay. As a member of the pioneering team that completed the first official Ice Mile south of the Antarctic Circle, he has faced temperatures as low as minus one degree. A three-time Guinness World Record holder and the first to complete the Big 5 Swims in Western Cape waters, Ryan has firmly established himself among the elite of endurance swimming.

Ryan’s experiences have given him a profound understanding of mental resilience and emotional well-being. His book ‘Push Past Impossible’ and his keynote presentations take audiences inside the mindset required to overcome fear, pain, and doubt. Through authentic storytelling and practical insight, he connects the lessons learned in extreme conditions to the challenges faced in everyday life and the workplace. His TEDx talk, ‘Gaining the Edge’, is a deep exploration of Ryan’s grit, determination, and passion for pushing the possibilities of human endurance. Ryan’s ability to translate his experiences into actionable strategies makes him an exceptional mental health speaker—one who inspires people to redefine their limits, embrace discomfort, and build the inner strength needed to thrive in any environment.

Official Testimonials

Ryan Stramrood is regularly booked to engage audiences at events, read their latest feedback below:

“I travel the world and attend conferences across the globe. I see the best of the best in main platform speakers and guest speakers but I was astounded and inspired by Ryan Stramrood. When I was fortunate to see him present on one of his favourite topics, I was mesmerise and felt like I was right with him in Antarctica, could feel the cold go through my body and veins and felt his pain – I was there when his mind and body overcame the brick wall over the last 100 meters of his sub-zero, ice-challenge. Ryan is an amazing and incredible story teller and presenter! He will take you with him all the way and make you part of his storyline. I can highly recommend corporates and any other entities to make use of Ryan to inspire, EMPOWER and motivate their employees, teams and management or memberships of affiliations. Ryan is also one of the nicest personalities around and easy to deal with. WOW!”

Kobus, CFP, Liblink

The audience could not get enough of him, he is very special – a true mensch. Salt of the earth type! He speaks beautifully – he is funny, he is modest. He deserves everything that the good universe has to give.”
